INITIATIVES
The Peconic Hockey Foundation has since its inception on the sidelines of our childrens' game dedicated its priorities to several core principles.
Hockey HAS to be fun. No matter what age or skill level, the more fun we have the more engaged and more likely we are to keep playing.
Since our early discussions with hockey coaches and groups like USA Hockey the Foundation’s purpose is to enhance the mission of USA Hockey, Inc. on a local level. Our fundamental mission is to help strengthen Eastern Long Island hockey by providing support in six general areas:
Participation
The American Development Model is an initiative that started in 2009 with the aim to teach kids to play, love and excel at the game of hockey. With its financial support, the Foundation recognizes that the more children who learn to play through age-appropriate training, the more who will be involved in the sport for a lifetime. Our aim is to increase participation in the sport.
Opportunity
The Foundation shall through its fundraising efforts create and maintain a scholarship program dedicated to creating opportunity, development and experiences for those unable through our network of programs and financial assistance.
Safety
The safety of all hockey players is paramount. The use of proper equipment and proper fitting make the difference in performance and thus increases skill. When a player feels safe and have proper fitting equipment, they are more apt to excel.
Player Development
The Foundation is committed to helping all players of all abilities reach their goals top through world-class training programs and financial assistance.
Education
The Foundation firmly agrees and has adopted the American Development for Athletes and the Long Term Athlete development Program. Coaches, officials and parents all receive educational resources and training through USA Hockey. The Foundation supports the cause of creating excellence through consistency which is the aim of the USA Hockey education program.
Commemoration
The Foundation believes it cannot move forward without acknowledging the experience and dedication of those that have gone before us. We look forward every year to acknowledging one individual that has selflessly dedicated their lives work to the betterment of the sports and the athletes, coaches and officials that play the game.
