About:
Fresno Pacific student-athletes and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) volunteered 3,054 combined hours of community service and community engagement, including 2,209 hours of community service outreach as well as an additional 845 hours from community engagement events that brought groups to campus.
Student-athletes partnered with 25 different organizations to serve the greater Fresno area. This included a major community engagement event in the fall with Joni and Friends, a non-profit organization that provides outreach to thousands of families affected by disabilities. The athletics department hosted a Walk ‘n Roll-a-thon at the Fresno Pacific track with multiple Sunbirds teams volunteering to create a carnival-style environment with games and activities for disabled children and their families.
In the spring the Sunbirds baseball program partnered with TeamImpact, a non-profit organization that matches children facing life threatening illnesses with college athletic teams to create long-term support networks. The team added Emilio Gomez to its roster, a local 11-year-old who has been battling lymphoma. Emilio became a full member of the team attending practices and team meetings as well as suiting up for games.
This spring, the SAAC hosted its second annual Sunbird Sports Day, inviting children from the local community onto campus for a fun-filled day of games and activities.
