About:
Members of the Shaw Avenue Elementary School Giving Club from Valley Stream District 30 recently partnered with the New York Giving Doll, a nonprofit organization based on Long Island whose mission is to give faith, hope, love, joy and comfort to children in special times of need. The organization creates handmade dolls for children experiencing tragedy and each doll comes with a handmade tote bag and blanket.
Led by adviser Kristin Princiotta, Shaw Avenue Giving Club members showcased their kind hearts and creativity as they each designed and decorated a plain tote bag with fabric markers. They drew butterflies, teddy bears, elephants and other cheerful motifs onto the tote bags to bring smiles to the children’s faces. The students then donated their 10 beautiful bags to the organization which will house a doll and blanket for each child. The project was a positive way to give back and make a difference.
