About:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients program is successful because of schools across the country, and recently students at Berner Middle School in the Massapequa School District contributed to the fundraiser.
The National Junior Honor Society, under the direction of advisers Susan Beitzinger and Juliette Happe, held a one-week collection drive in June. Students had the opportunity to donate during homeroom and lunch periods, and were encouraged to support the cause by dropping any loose change into the small blue and yellow boxes.
Honor society members gathered the contributions every day. When all of the change was tallied up, Berner raised $522 to help children battling blood cancer.
