About:
When the members of the Harding Avenue Elmentary School Book Café, led by teacher Jeanette Walsh, read “The Lemonade War” by Jacqueline Davies they decided that they would have to conduct their own lemonade wars to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The students created posters and led the drive in the school that resulted in $483 in donations. Additionally, the fourth and fifth grade Book Café members created their own teams and lemonade stands and met at the Lindenhurst gazebo on a Sunday to sell their lemonade, bracelets and desserts for the cause.
All of their efforts paid off and the lemonade wars were a tremendous success as an additional $700 was raised for the cause. The members of the Book Café presented the donations to the Lindenhurst Union Free School District director of health, physical education and athletics, Anthony Amesti, who has taken part in four Muckfest Philadelphia obstacle runs sponsored by The National Multiple Sclerosis Society and will compete in his fifth on June 8. Mr. Amesti runs in support of his sister-in-law who has multiple sclerosis.
