ANNVILLE, Pa. – The 2013-14 student-athletes of Lebanon Valley College performed 2,510 hours of community service this past year, adding up to nearly 105 days’ worth.
The LVC community as a whole contributed an LVC record 23,810 service hours this past academic year. The U. S. Corporation for National and Community Service values this service at approximately $536,926.77.
LVC’s varsity athletic teams performed 2,088.25 hours of off-campus service in the community in a diverse array of activities ranging from working at local YMCA camps to Habitat for Humanity. On-campus, LVC teams provided 421.75 hours of service, including extensive work with the Special Olympics of Lebanon County. Many teams joined with other campus organizations for service projects, including Colleges Against Cancer.
The football team led LVC teams with 716.5 total hours of service, nearly eight hours per player. The ice hockey team had the top per-person participation, averaging more than 17 hours per student-athlete for their work on Military Appreciation Night among other initiatives.
