About:
WASHINGTON, DC – The Firebird Student-Athlete Advisory Committee joined forces with the Men’s and Women’s basketball programs to collect hundreds of canned goods during the week and on Wednesday evening, February 13th, through their “Fight Hunger Games” initiative.
The first ever event will result in approximately 82 pounds of canned food goods being donated to “Martha’s Table”, a D.C non-profit organization dedicated to supplying needy D.C. residents with nutritious meals.
Firebirds fans were encouraged to drop off non-perishable goods prior to the Wednesday night doubleheader against LIU Post. Anyone making a donation received a raffle ticket, and after the halftime drawing, the winner received a gift from the Athletic Department.
The drive was organized to highlight the usual drop-off in food donations at the beginning of the calendar year, after the giving spirit of the holidays has passes.
