About:
I’m Rhys Walter, and I’m a junior at Harborfields High School.
Last year, I set a goal to run 1,000 miles to raise money for mental health awareness and to offset the cost of the Natural Helpers retreat for my classmates. Natural Helpers is a student organization that supports the social-emotional wellness of our classmates by working to communicate and support each other. I created a GoFundMe page and so far, I’ve raised over $3,000 for the Natural Helpers program.
I suffered a traumatic leg injury in May of 2024 when I broke both bones in my lower leg while hurdling for my high school track team. As I was recovering and rehabbing, my friends and family helped me log miles so that my charity could still continue.
I’m fully recovered now, and I am still logging miles. I am at about 800 miles, and I have just a few left to go. I’m so glad that my project has gotten attention, as it’s raising awareness for a really great cause – student mental health.
