More than 30 teams and individual’s were recognized at the Spartans fifth annual end of the year celebration.
San Jose, Calif. – Student-athletes and coaches from San Jos̩ State University Athletics gathered in the campus’s Barrett Ballroom to recognize team and individual achievements at the Fifth Annual SAMMY Awards on May 12.
The SAMMYS, hosted by the San Jose State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), recognize San Jose State’s top achievements in competition, the classroom and in the community during the school year.
Head coach Sage Hopkins and women’s swimming and diving team took home the Spartan Cup Championship trophy. The trophy is awarded to the team who collects the most points throughout the year in five Champs Life Skills areas: Athletic Excellence, Academic Excellence, Personal Development, Career Development and Community Involvement.
Women’s soccer was first runner-up and softball was second runner-up. The three programs received recognition and gift certificates for their efforts.
The swimming & diving team also earned the Community Service Award for participating in more than 350 hours of community service projects.
San Jose State has a program, The Spartan Cup, in which community service hours are tabulated for each of the intercollegiate sports programs.
