About:
Annual “Play 4 The Cure” Field Hockey Game Raises $1100
Smithtown’s field hockey teams played the annual “Play 4 The Cure” game honoring the memory of the late St. James Elementary School teacher Sara Long Harte. Sara not only taught there for eight years but also attended the school as a child. She was very involved in raising money for children with cancer. More than $1,100 was raised to benefit a scholarship fund in her name.
Each year Smithtown Girls Field Hockey dedicates this game to our Teacher, Colleague and Friend who left this world all too soon due to Breast Cancer five years ago.
Sara Long Harte taught at St. James Elementary School, the very same Elementary school where she attended as a child, for eight years. Her immeasurable impact throughout the community in such a short period lives on today through a Scholarship Fund, a Memorial Garden and a hand-crafted picket fence in front of the St. James Elementary School which was built to honor her by a former student. Her dedication to students, Charity work with the Sunrise Fund for Childhood Cancer and her unending labor of love for this community will never be forgotten.
Today we celebrate the life of one of our Communities brightest stars in the heavens and Cheer on both Smithtown East and West Field Hockey as they Play 4 the Cure!
