About:
With the ultimate goal of eradicating cancer, St. John’s hosted the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life once again, on Friday, April 4, in Carnesecca Arena.
SJU Dance and Cheer Team participated in the event raising $905 amongst the 28 participants from the 2 teams.
Relay for Life is an international effort in which communities raise funds for cancer research, celebrate the courage of survivors, and honor those who have died. Each year, hundreds of St. John’s students, faculty, administrators, and staff join together to raise money to fight cancer by participating in this all-night walkathon. SJU had 126 teams and 1,401 participants in the event raising a total of $79,102.99
To honor a loved one in support of this important cause, members of the St. John’s community are encouraged to purchase a luminaria. These glowing tributes to individuals affected by cancer will be placed around the main court in Carnesecca Arena and lit during the Luminaria Ceremony.
