About:
Bethpage, N.Y. – The Queens College baseball team took time from its schedule to give back during the holiday season, volunteering at the St. Jude Give Thanks Walk from Bethpage Ball Park in Long Island, last week.
The event, done through the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, was the first of its kind done by the hospital and the baseball team played a pivotal role in the success of the day. In addition to showing up early to help set up, the team stayed late to breakdown at the end of the day. Also, the Knights collected pledges for the walk and donated the proceeds to the hospital.
The day was a huge success as the team helped raise $101,000 for Cancer research. Coach Chris Reardon reflected on the day, “As a parent, this is so important to me. I know my players learned about how lucky they are and the importance of helping those in need.”
The Queens College baseball team, under first-year head coach, Chris Reardon, opens its 2014 campaign Sunday, February 23.
