Battle Of The Classes – Battling For A Cause 2017

As a school every year we fundraise for different charities. This year we are fundraising for The Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign which helps raise awareness for Melanoma. Our goal goal is to raise $25,500 for this foundation to contribute to raise awareness for Melanoma. Many families in our town have been affected by Melanoma and the Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign has been there to help them.

In order for Carle Place High School to accomplish our goal of raising $25,500 for the Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign we come together and do many different things to encourage the students to fundraise. Every year we have an assembly to give the students and teachers background information for the foundation we are fundraising for. Every student receives a packet with information on the foundation and a fundraising sheet. The Student Organization and Key Club officers talk about the foundation to the kids. We make a slideshow presentation of pictures from the events in the past to make the students remember what a great event this is for a great cause. Battle of the Classes in Carle Place High School is when all the high school classes compete against each other in a series of events; they battle for a cause. In order to enter the event though they must fundraise money for the foundation. Individuals fundraise on their own or even as a grade. Some students set up online accounts for people to donate money and go door to door. This event is one of the most exciting events of the year for everyone but to know they are doing it for a good cause makes the event even better. Students participate in a spirit week days that correlate to the foundation we have chosen. The key club and Student organization try to encourage all the students to participate in fundraising and all the other events we have planned for them. Penny wars has also been a very successful event which we have done in the past. Each Class has a coin jar in the lunchroom and you can put in coins to the jars that will be donated to the foundation. However to make it more interesting we make the coins worth points. Pennies are worth positive points while all the other coins are worth negative points. You can put money in other grades jars to deduct points from them and in the end the grade with the most positive points win. This game builds up the excitement for battle of the classes and is a great way to fundraise money for the foundation. We are also going to be creating a squash out skin cancer social media campaign. We are going to encourage kids to take a selfie demonstrating that they are wearing sunscreen all year long. We hope to raise awareness through this. We will also be selling SPF shirts. Battle has become one of the biggest events of the year that everyone loves and comes out for. It makes memories for all while helping those affected by the foundation we fundraise for. We have been preparing for this event since June of last year. The event culminates in February. We start the assembly in early December along with fundraising up until the end of February when the night of battle of the classes occurs.

The Student Organization and Key Club are motivated to organize this particular project every year to help give back to our community and help foundations in need that have helped families in our town. We enjoy doing this event every year because not only do we get to help these foundations raise money but we also get to make a school event out of it that everyone enjoys.
