Be aT.I.G.E.R! Education Program Overview
Be a T.I.G.E.R! focuses on five specific character traits, which are promoted throughout all personal appearances including elementary and middle schools in the community.
Clemson student athletes are the key components of promoting this program to the students.
The goal of this character building program is for student athletes to share the character traits that have allowed them to be successful in their careers by
presenting a unified and focused vision, created by SOS, through the Be a T.I.G.E.R! program.
Facts about Be a T.I.G.E.R!:
Be a T.I.G.E.R! has visited 40 different schools and reached over 10,180 kids this year through assembly programs.
The five principles abbreviated in the title Be a TIGER! are:
– T: work together as a TEAM to accomplish more
– I: INTEGRITY means you can be trusted
– G: always show GRATITUDE to those who help you
– E: make getting your EDUCATION a priority
– R: RESPECT yourself and others.
Be a T.I.G.E.R! began in 2006 as the first character education program in a Division I school. The program has successfully been in operation for 6 years!
Be aTIGER! Component: Assembly Programs & Personal Appearances
Student Athletes have the opportunity to go out to various schools around Clemson and teach the character-building traits of Be a T.I.G.E.R!.
The character-building traits are taught through skits and games presented to the students in assembly programs lasting 50 minutes.
They are fun and interactive, always ending with students learning the Clemson cheer in cadence count!
Be aTIGER! Component: Field Day
Field Day is an opportunity for children in the surrounding area to come and participate in activities centered around the program’s five key characteristics.
There are ten activity stations of games, which Clemson student-athletes coordinate and supervise!
After the field day all participants are invited to attend the Spring Game.
This free event is planned and conducted by the student-athletes and cosponsored by SAAC.
Be a TIGER! Component: T.I.G.E.R! Talk
The T.I.G.E.R! Talk program partners at-risk middle school students with student-athletes who discuss and post responses centered on the five characteristics of Be a T.I.G.E.R!
Prompts are written by student-athletes to guide conversations. There are three different prompts per a letter.
At the end students also receive a prize for completing the prompts. This program partners with the Eugene Moore School of Education using Digital Express.
Be aTIGER! Component: T.I.G.E.R! Pals
Student-athletes mentor a child who is staying at the Helping Hands facility.
Each week the student-athlete writes a note of encouragement to their pal.
Be aTIGER! Component: T.I.G.E.R. Read
Each week Clemson student-athletes went into the classroom and read books that exemplified the Be a T.I.G.E.R! characteristics.
Afterwards, students had an activity to do centered around the book.
Video prompts are being created and will be uploaded to the Internet so that students can read and view writing prompts at home!
