About:
The Hastings High School Boys’ Soccer Program has a long-standing tradition of raising money for a charity of the captains’ choosing alongside the fundraising they do for the team. In many years, they join the Hastings athletic community in raising money for breast cancer research. However, this year the Captains chose to raise money to fight childhood hunger in the US. The players recognized that, even in a country as wealthy as the US, over 14 million children still go hungry preventing them from reaching their full potential in school and participating in the sporting life that they all love. They set up a fundraising campaign with the No Kid Hungry peer fundraising platform of Shasre Our Strength and widely distributed the link through email and social media. In two weeks they were able to raise almost $2000 and rasie awareness of childhood hunger among their peers and the wider community. Many of the soccer players also participate in a Thanksgiving dinner for homeless people hosted at Hastings High School so they recognize that there are many people in the wider world around them who they can offer a helping hand and broaden their perspecives.
