About:
Annually, Fabius-Pompey and Tully compete in the Communties Kickin’ for Cancer soccer games. Both boys and girls participate in separate games. Although the game is much enjoyed by the players and the fans, there is a much more important aspect of the game – raising money for cancer. Months in advance, both teams begin their fundraising processes. All profits from selling t-shirts, food concessions, half-time games, or any other form of fundraising are donated directly to cancer research.
During the games, each player devotes their shirt to someone they know who has either had or have cancer. Before each game, both teams have a ceremony. The ceremony allows each athlete to honor or memorialize their person of choice. Individual pictures are taken, and moments of gratitude and love are expressed. When half-time comes around, games such as Chuck-a-Duck for little kids are played, along with raffles and 50/50s. Parents and community members also put in a lot of time and effort to make the games successful. Before the games, athletes can be found welcoming the fans, preparing food, selling at tables, and decorating for the game.
With all of the communities working together, we are able to have our best performance for our teams and our community. In the year of 2022, we were able to donate $6,375 to the Upstate Cancer Foundation and $6,375 to the Carol Baldwin Foundation, totaling $12,750. The service of our community and our athletes allowed us to contribute to cancer research.
