About:
In North Salem’s district, we have always done a Dig Pink event. We raise money for breast cancer research and patient help. This year we took it to a new level.
Not only did the volleyball team raise money but so did the boys and girls soccer team and the field hockey team! The girls soccer team exceeded their expected goal of $500 by raising $2,411. The boys also exceeded their goal by raising $675 with an expected amount of $500. Finally the field hockey team raised $200. All these teams had their own ‘pink out’ game to support raising money for breast cancer as well.
Other than the big Dig Pink volleyball game, the JV and Varsity volleyball teams did a carwash. The carwash raised $1900. We also did many tiny things to raise money. We did a table outside our cafeteria where we sold everything from pink bracelets to face paint on the day of the game. We also sold shirts that had our motto for the fundraiser “Play together, Fight together”.
During the week before the Dig Pink game, the school was decorated in all pink. Windows had players names on them and walls were colored pink. The day of the event, students were all wearing pink. Some kids and teachers had pink capes on or pink socks. There were also a lot of pink masks. At the end of the night, there were many supporters at the game cheering the girls on. Not only did this event raise a whole lot of money but it brought the community together.
