About:
Last Friday, the LIU Post field hockey team raised money for cancer awareness by participating in the school’s second-annual Relay For Life at the Pratt Recreation Center.
In all, 10 Pioneers put in two hours apiece at the event in support of the cause. They also donated a total of $100 to benefit the American Cancer Society.
“The Relay For Life event at LIU Post had a personal relevance to me, because my mother passed away from colon cancer,” said a sophomore on the team. “It moved me and confimed that everyone’s struggle and heartbreak can be transformed into a better future for all those touched by cancer.”
In 2014, the entire LIU Post community raised $50,000 for cancer research, as part of its inaugural Relay For Life initiative. Leading into this year’s event, a total of $19,000 had been accumulated.
