Rivals. United for a Cause.
Last week, Maine-Endwell and Vestal came together for two special nights of competition, community, and a shared commitment to raising awareness for childhood cancer.
While Maine-Endwell and Vestal are longtime rivals on the playing field, these events reminded us that there are causes bigger than the final score. Through our “Rivals. United for a Cause.” initiative, the two school communities teamed up to support children and families affected by childhood cancer.
The week included a volleyball match on September 17 at Vestal and a football game on September 18 at Maine-Endwell. Athletes, coaches, students, families, and fans from both schools came together wearing gold, participating in awareness activities, and helping shine a light on the fight against childhood cancer.
A special feature of the events was the collaboration between four Maine-Endwell student-athletes and four Vestal student-athletes, who joined together to help promote the initiative and encourage their classmates and communities to get involved.
Funds raised through the events will benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, an organization dedicated to funding childhood cancer research and supporting children and families affected by the disease.
The week was about more than two rival schools coming together. It was about two communities standing side by side for children and families who are facing something far greater than anything that happens on a playing field.
