About:

Westhampton Beach Students Raise Money for Childhood Cancer Charities

The Golden Canes are a group of student athletes dedicated to raising awareness about childhood cancer and money for the organizations that support kids fighting cancer.   Seven years ago, at the age of 9, Sydney Anastasia won her battle against cancer with the support of her family, friends, and some amazing charities.  Today, Sydney, Kaitlyn McDermott, and Sean Bass are paying it forward.

During National Believe week, the Golden Canes ran a letter writing campaign at East Moriches Turkey Trot and in just two hours helped to raise $150 for the Make-A-Wish foundation, which grants wishes for critically ill children.  During the holiday season Macy’s donates $1 to Make-A-Wish for every letter written and sent through Macy’s and during National Believe Week, they donate $2 per letter.  Back at their high school in Westhampton Beach, the Golden Canes are coordinating an online letter writing campaign and are also collecting letters from East Moriches Elementary and Middle Schools with the hopes of raising an additional $750.  If they win this video challenge, they plan to donate the prize to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and will hopefully donate another $3000- so please vote!!!

And that’s not all they have been up to.  Back in September, the Golden Canes worked with the WHB Girls Volleyball teams to hold a Digging for Gold fundraiser and raised almost $700 for MSK Kids, the pediatric unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital.  In October, the Golden Canes ran a lemonade stand at every home Westhampton Beach Hurricanes Varsity football game and raised $1280 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to childhood cancer research.

So please vote today and every day this week and help these #kidshelpingkidswithcancer. Thank you!!!
