About:
Every holiday season, athletes Matt and Steven Spirakis of Teen Project with Luke and TJ Schmitt of Charlie’s Champions Foundation join forces to help raise funds and collect age-appropriate gift card donations to help make dreams come true for teenage patients at NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island’s Cancer Center for Kids – Mineola and the Hospital’s Child Life Program. This year, due to the challenges presented by COVID-19 and related restrictions with in-person events, an online platform has been established on the NYU Langone Giving website.
With the help of their teammates from the Garden City High School Football and Lacrosse Team, along with community support from the GCHS Miracle Club, GCHS Class Advisors, Sacred Heart Academy and students throughout Long Island and Connecticut, they again were able to make a difference to teens who visit the hospital and the Cancer Center for Kids during the holiday season and throughout the year.
This fundraiser brings awareness that hospitals continue to need the support from the community. Medical care can only support so much and it is the dollars raised in these campaigns, which help a teen thrive and get better both physically and emotionally.
