About:
All of our sports teams are required to complete a service project each season. Over the past two winter seasons, our winter sports teams have collaborated on a single service project that supports the More Than A Game Foundation (MTAG). This organization benefits local charities, including Golisano Children’s Hospital and the Upstate Cancer Center. Our project is called Hoops for Hospitals.
Members from various teams participated over three days, including the Varsity Cheer squad, Indoor Track team, and the Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball teams, as well as the Junior Varsity and Modified Boys and Girls Basketball teams. Additionally, combined teams from Westmoreland’s Girls and Boys Volleyball and the Mohawk Valley Jugglers hockey team were also involved.
The members of our teams ran this project. The teams coordinated and promoted activities over two nights, which included accepting donations at the door, selling 50/50 tickets, and working the concession stand, with all proceeds going to the cause. Each team also organized and participated in a bottle-and-can drive to help raise additional funds.
This service project not only raises funds to support the fight against cancer but also helps develop our athletes’ character and teamwork skills.
