About:
On Thursday, Oct. 2, the Smithtown High School West volleyball team will host their cross-town rival, Smithtown High School East, for a good cause. HSW volleyball will hold the team’s annual Dig Pink fundraiser to benefit the Side-Out Foundation, established in 2004 to unite volleyball players and coaches to further breast cancer awareness, education and patient services. The event begins at 4 p.m. Side-Out supports teams nationwide in their volleyball tournaments, clinics and other fundraising efforts and contributes funds to organizations that serve breast cancer patients, whether it be in the form of research, medical services or patient support. HSW volleyball players are holding the fundraiser in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. HSE will host their Dig Pink fundraiser on Oct. 28, with HSW making the trip. Dig Pink has grown into a national phenomenon among high school volleyball players. Players and fans from both schools will don their favorite pink shirts and rally in support of breast cancer awareness. All fans and community members are invited to attend.
