About:
The Golden Canes are a group of student athletes dedicated to raising awareness about childhood cancer and money for the organizations that support kids fighting cancer. Five years ago, at the age of 9, Sydney Anastasia won her battle against cancer with the support of her family, friends and some amazing charities. Today, Sydney, Sean Bass, Keira Csabon, Kaitlyn McDermott and their friends are paying it forward.
On National Believe Day, the Golden Canes ran a letter writing campaign at the East Moriches Holiday Fair and in just two hours helped to raise over $220 for the Make-A-Wish foundation, which grants wishes for critically ill children. During the holiday season, Macy’s donates $1 to Make-A-Wish for every letter written and sent through Macy’s. On National Believe Day, they donate $2 per letter. Back at their high school in Westhampton Beach, the Golden Canes are coordinating an online letter writing campaign with the hopes of raising an additional $800. If they win this video challenge, they plan to donate the prize to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and will hopefully donate another $3000- so please vote!!!
And that’s not all they have been up to. Back in September and October, the Golden Canes ran a lemonade stand at every home Westhampton Beach Hurricanes varsity football game and raised $2400 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to childhood cancer research. And they are just getting started. Future plans include activities to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities and MSK Kids (the pediatric unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital), where Sydney stayed and was treated during her battle with cancer.
So please vote today and every day this week and help these #kidshelpingkidsfightcancer. Thank you!!!
