About:

This past month, the Lynbrook High School’s Key Club hosted its annual Powder Puff football game. This friendly-competition between the junior girls and senior girls took place on the turf field at Marion Street Elementary school on November 13. The junior and senior girls played, and a few junior and senior boys were chosen to coach. This game has been a tradition in the Lynbrook community for the past 15 years, and high schoolers and community members alike love to attend.

The Key Club organizes this event; junior and senior club members sell the jerseys, and the freshman and sophomore club members volunteer at the game to collect money. Players were charged $5 to get into the game and guests were encouraged to make a donation. Through the tickets sold to students, parents, and community members, over $1,100 was raised for the Mary Brennan Inn.

This organization “provides a broad variety of essential services to assist those challenged by hunger, homelessness and profound poverty.” The Inn works with community partners and people in the community to assist people in achieving “self-sufficiency.”

The senior girls came out on top, defeating the juniors by a score of 43-39. The game was a close one, and an exciting day that raised money for a great cause!
