About:
Head Coach Jordan Levine and the Mercy College men’s lacrosse team have raised $3,750 for the Vs. Cancer Foundation.
The foundation was started by former University of North Carolina baseball player Chase Jones. Jones started the Vs. Cancer Foundation after being diagnosed with brain cancer while playing baseball at UNC. The Foundation has worked with another colleges, high schools and youth groups to tackle this deadly disease.
The Foundation believes in the half and half model for donations. So half of the money raised by the Mavericks will go to national cancer research efforts, while the other half will be donated to the Maria Fareri Children Hospital at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y.
The Fareri Children Hospital has been at the forefront in providing advanced pediatric care for their patients and a support system for the families involved.
About the Vs. Cancer Foundation
The Vs. Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving kids’ lives by empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer efforts.
About the Maria Fareri Children Hospital
The Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in the nation named after a child. After Maria died, her parents, John and Brenda Fareri, learned that Maria had made a special wish as part of a school project – “for the health and well-being of all the children in the world.” With her spirit guiding them, her parents, family and other 20,000 members of our community have made this wish a reality. Today, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is a place where parents are not visitors but partners with the staff in the care of their children.
