Mt. Markham Girls Volleyball Gold Rush

Each year, our JV and Varsity Volleyball Teams sell tickets to students and community residents in order to raise money for our Gold Rush Fundraiser. Monies from the girls’ ticket sales go directly to a local family within our community. Any ticket drawn is for a chance to pie a faculty member, including coaches.

This year, there were 2 families in our community who have had unforeseen financial hardships based on cancer diagnoses. Our efforts were to support the families of Eben, a high school sophomore, and Matthew, a 1 year old. Both boys are receiving cancer treatment.

A raffle, donations, and concessions were also part of the fundraising efforts. In addition, our opponent, Sherburne-Earlville, brought a donation. Also, the referees donated money. We were fortunate to raise $2000 with the support of our school and community. Each family received $1000 assistance.

The annual event not only blesses a family(s). It also is a great lesson in teaching our student-athletes that act of service. Our athletes really embrace this event. It has definitely left a lasting impact on everyone involved.
