About:
Our community service work was for a small not-for-profit organization called the Patrick Wiese Foundation. The Patrick Wiese Foundation is an organization that aims to help cancer survivors and patients in Central New York overcome financial burdens through tuition scholarships, defraying educational costs, and more. Last year we started our own “account” through the Patrick Wiese Foundation to support a family in our school district. All money raised stayed in the local community to help support one of our own. We were able to raise $2200 at last year’s event with a goal of even more this year.
The event is executed with the help from both the JV and Varsity boys basketball teams at Marcellus High School, and their families. Students aim to raise money in a variety of different ways, in a small town, this can be difficult as the community tends to get hit frequently with fundraising requests. We tried to find a different way rather than just “asking” for donations.
Some of the events we do rather than just having jars out collecting donations: “Family” T-shirt sales, “Family” sticker sales, “Chuck-a-Duck” game, concession stand sales, and halftime 3 point shootout.
