About:
Flushing, N.Y. – This past Saturday was a beautiful day in New York, with mild temperatures and sunshine. It was a respite from the dreary winter that affected us all. The Queens College track and field teams spent part of that beautiful day at the nearby Middle Village House, donating their time to a worthwhile cause.
The Middle Village House serves as a home for mentally disabled young adults and the team visited them on Saturday. During their stay, 17 members of the team cleaned up and planted shrubs in their yard, spent time getting to know them and prepared their meals for the evening.
Several members of the team reflected on how important their service was. “It makes you realize how fortunate you are” Donovan Stewart said. He continued, “To know that we were able to help a little bit is very rewarding.”
Bernadette Gruol added, “These people are our neighbors. To help out neighbors is a great feeling. I look forward to going back there.”
The track and field teams open their outdoor season on Saturday, March 22, when they compete in the Wager College Invitational.
