About:
Last year our varsity baseball team chose to do a fundraiser for pediatric cancer. Albany Medical Center (in Albany, N.Y.) was opening a new wing just for children suffering from this disease. As a result, our baseball program raised over $1,000.00 for this cause. Feeling that this was a very successful event, Tamarac decided to expand this fundraiser. This year the softball program was invited to participate as well. Baseball then challenged Softball to see who could raise the most money, once again for pediatric cancer.
The plans were basically in place and the fundraising had begun. Just prior to this event we (Tamarac) were informed that one of our young baseball players had just been diagnosed with cancer. This really hit many of us hard so Red, White and Gold Day became more important than ever.
The games began 9:30 in the morning with all of our baseball and softball teams scheduled to play that day. Donations, raffles galore, a great concession stand, t-shirts for many, etc., etc. went on. When the day had ended late that afternoon, more than $7,000.00 had been raised for pediatric cancer.
Special thanks to our Coaches, our Booster Club and the visiting teams who graciously accepted our invitation to play us that day.
A beautiful day in more ways than one!
