About:
Each year the Saranac girls’ and boys’ soccer program participate in a community service fundraiser. The goal is to help a local organization in need. This year we chose Make-A-Wish of Northeastern New York. Our goal was to raise as much money as we could, to help grant as many wishes possible for our local children in need.
Our student athletes volunteered their time by calling family, friends and local businesses asking for donations. They did a local street coin drive fundraiser. The teams placed donation buckets in our elementary, middle and high schools, along with multiple local businesses. Many posters and signs were hand made by the players signifying the cause in which we were raising money. The final fundraising event was held on October 15th, 2022 when both the girls’ and boys’ varsity teams played their last regular season home games. We refer to this as our senior night. This is a spectacular event in which we invite our Junior Varsity and Modified players along with all of the local youth soccer teams to come and be recognized during an amazing ceremony between games. The ceremony was concluded when our senior athletes lit and released floating sky lanterns in memory of those that lost their battle to cancer.
The total amount of money raised was an astounding $21,611.40 to be turned over to William Trigg, CEO of Make-A-Wish Northeastern New York in a ceremony to be held at the Saranac High School on November 9, 2022.
