About:
Together United Organization (TUO) is a youth organization that empowers the youth to make a change through mindful eating, environmental advocacy, and sustainability. This Earth Day, we wanted to do something special for our environment. Trees offer us a plethora of things ranging from oxygen and food to clean air and protection. Additionally, forest habitats, like the Amazon, are home to 80% of the world’s plant and animal species. However, deforestation has been a serious issue since the onset of the industrial era. The removal of trees can cause an increase in carbon dioxide, a loss in biodiversity, and rise in aridity. Over 46% of the world’s forests have already been destroyed and 80,000 acres of forests are removed every day. Without immediate action, in the next 25 years, approximately 28,000 species are expected to become extinct.
So, in order to combat our environment’s deforestation, we hosted a tree planting event! On April 24th, 2021 from 12-3 pm, we were able to plant 50 white spruce and white pine trees. With the help of our 48 volunteers, we successfully made a change in our environment. A big thank you goes out to the Town of Hempstead, Home Depot, and the Baldwin Park for their assistance, donations, and participation. TUO is just getting started on changing the world. Stay tuned on our next event!
