About:
The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics released on Monday its inaugural Community Engagement Report, detailing the community service activities of all of the department’s student-athletes, coaches and staff.
The report can be viewed in its entirety by clicking here.
Previously the report existed as a section of the Annual Report, which will be released on Tuesday, but due to a large increase in community engagement in 2013-14, UTPA Athletics made the determination to split the information into two separate reports.
Below is a letter from UTPA Director of Athletics Chris King found in the Community Engagement Report:
The 2013-14 academic year was memorable for The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, as we had the opportunity to proudly represent the Rio Grande Valley on the national stage in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) for the first time.
We are showcasing the strength of UTPA Athletics in competition, the classroom, and the community in this Community Engagement Report. There is also a separate Annual Report. These reports outline some of the triumphs from last year, but also provide much optimism for the future of the Broncs.
We invite you to read through this Community Engagement Report and then logon to UTPABroncs.com to read through the Annual Report on Tuesday to see where we’ve been, where we are, and most importantly, where we are going.
In this report are details of how active all of our programs have been in the community, from visiting children’s hospitals to hosting bone marrow drives and more. In total, our student-athletes and coaches provided more than 300 hours of community service at over 100 events. Our women’s basketball team led the way by completing over 100 hours of community service.
As we enter our second year in the WAC, we are excited about the launch of women’s soccer for the first time in school history. The Broncs will play their first home match on August 27 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium, but we are hoping to be able to play in our brand new on-campus soccer and track & field complex once WAC play begins on September 27.
I hope you share my pride in the accomplishments of the Broncs over the past year. There are many more victories and accomplishments to come. I hope the annual reports inspire you to join our Bronc family and assist our student-athletes, coaches, and staff in together building a premier NCAA Division I athletic program that shines brilliantly on our campus, throughout the Rio Grande Valley, and beyond. Whether it is attending our special events, becoming a corporate sponsor, buying season tickets, or making a gift to the Bronc Athletic Fund, there have never been more ways for you to become involved with UTPA Athletics and support the Broncs.
We are truly appreciative of all of the student-athletes, coaches, staff, supporters, and fans that are a part of our UTPA Athletics family.
GO BRONCS!
