About:
For the third year in a row, the University of the District of Columbia women’s basketball team volunteered at the event “Just Us Girls Overnight Adventure” hosted by the Department of Parks and Recreation’s “Xtreme Teen” Program on Saturday, September 28th.
The event featured a number of recreational activities for close to fifty local teen girls ranging in age from 10-17 years old. Starting at 12:30 am, the women’s basketballs student-athletes put together a basketball clinic where they ran drills and acted as referees and coaches during scrimmages.
“Our girls really look forward to coming out to help every year,” Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Robin Williams said. “It gives them a chance to be coaches for a day, and they really have fun with it.”
Head Coach Lester Butler, Jr.’s squad has won the UDC Competition Cup in 2011-12 and 2012-13. That award is given to the team that performs the best in three criteria: academics, community service and attendance at other UDC teams’ events.
