About:

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 24, 2016) – The Mercy College women’s lacrosse team hosted members of the Abbott House for a friendly game of pickup basketball on Tuesday, February 23rd at Mercy Gymnasium.

Located down the street in Irvington, N.Y., the mission of the Abbott House is to “improve the lives of vulnerable children, adults, and families. Serving children and families in need and people with developmental disabilities, Abbott House strives for excellence and absolute integrity in the delivery of services.”

The team has been volunteering their time with the Abbott House for the past three years. In the fall of 2014, the team took on a larger role and began to make weekly trips to the Abbott House. During these trips, the lacrosse team plays basketball with the members of the Abbott House.

“The most rewarding part of this experience has been to see what joy we bring the gentlemen of the Abbott House by just showing up and playing basketball” said head women’s lacrosse coach Dawn Anselmin. “These adults look forward to us being there every Wednesday and it is rewarding to know that our commitment to them is something that they truly treasure.”
