About:
WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia (part of the long island based ecc conference) women’s lacrosse team volunteered at the Manna 5K race at Rock Creek Park on Saturday, September 19th.
The women’s lacrosse student-athletes assisted with all race operations including race registration and t-shirt distribution, set-up and clean-up, course directions and water distribution. The proceeds of the race went to Manna, Inc., a nonprofit developer of quality, affordable housing in the District of Columbia.
With seven DC residents on the team’s roster, head coach Melynda Brown said that volunteering at this race was especially gratifying because it supported such an important cause.
“This event, while also promoting fitness and healthy living, also brings about awareness about the housing issues in this city,” Brown said. “Manna’s focus is on revitalizing entire neighborhoods through homeownership. They educate first-time homebuyers for the process of home purchase and for continued success as homeowners. Then they also train homeowners and their neighbors throughout the city to become community leaders and advocates.”
