About:

Flushing, N.Y. – On Sunday, 10/26/14, the women’s tennis team joined the men’s and women’s soccer teams volunteering at Shocktoberfest. The event took place in Flushing Meadow’s Corona Park and was sponsored by the New York City Dept. of Parks and Recreation.

This event attracted hundreds of children and their parents in a pre-celebration of Halloween. The event took place from 1pm to 4pm. The teams arrived at 12:15pm to get their assignments and to help out in the setup of the activities. The activities included:

Haunted Hayride
Pumpkin Patch
Inflatable Jumping Playhouse Village
Arts and Crafts
Face Painting
Games
DJ and Music

The soccer teams were given various assignments some of the soccer teams distributed pumpkins in the pumpkin patch insuring that there was a steady supply of pumpkins and the area was patrolled for safety. Other members of the soccer teams worked in the inflatable playground rides making sure that the lines were orderly and the rides were safe. They also were in charge of the hayride lines and ran some kids games and Halloween events.
