About:

It was an honor to participate in the Youth Community Cleanup Day on Saturday, November 20th with Community Matters 2. This was the first ever Youth Community Cleanup and we had 150 volunteers. On this amazing day the youth transformed the streets of Poughkeepsie.  Our Lady of Lourdes High School/teams, worked along side Community Matters 2, which is a non for profit in the city of Poughkeepsie that works with the youth of our city. During this event we picked up 1 ton of trash, and over 140 hypodermic drug needles off the streets of Poughkeepsie in the locations of  Main street between Pershing Avenue and Cherry Street. White Street, Winnikee Ave. and Pershing Park. The City of Poughkeepsie recently has been ridden with poverty and crime, especially in the youth population. It was rewarding to take part in the clean up. The Lourdeans who participated got a glimpse into the unsafe environment and lifestyle that many of their peers in the city of Poughkeepsie are exposed to on a daily basis.   This gave our students a chance to give back and make a difference.  Helping our community is a big priority at Lourdes and we will continue to volunteer and give back to help make this world a better place.
