The 4th Annual Brianna McCarthy Memorial Hockey Tournament was held in Methuen, Massachusetts, to honor the memory of Brianna McCarthy, a cherished teacher and coach. This event brought together high school girls’ hockey teams from Longmeadow, Reading, Arlington Catholic, and Methuen/Tewksbury to compete in her honor.
The tournament took place on Monday, February 17th, and Wednesday, February 19th, culminating in an exciting championship game where Reading High School secured a 2-1 victory over the previously undefeated Methuen/Tewksbury Red Rangers. Despite their strong performance throughout the season, the Methuen/Tewksbury Red Rangers finished as the tournament’s runners-up.
The event also served as a fundraiser for the Brianna McCarthy Memorial Scholarship Fund. Led by Shelli-an Ryan, the Methuen/Tewksbury girls’ hockey boosters operated a concession stand and a 50/50 raffle to raise money for the scholarship.
The tournament not only celebrated the spirit of competition but also served as a touching tribute to Brianna McCarthy’s lasting impact on the community and the sportsmanship she inspired.
