About:
The boys soccer program honors and remembers Chris and Mathias in a meaningful way each year. This year’s tribute included a balloon and bubble release after the game with their families. Head Coach Jon Poppen shared a few words before inviting the families to speak. Although the current players and families never knew Chris or Mathias personally, both remain a part of the program and its legacy. They are never forgotten.
The food drive reflects something that Mathias would have loved. He is known for volunteering and giving back to the community, often spending time working at the local food shelf. His dedication to service continues to inspire the team.

During the week of the game, the team sets aside an hour of practice to focus on mental health and remembrance. A former teammate of Chris and Mathias joins the session to share stories about their friendship and his own experiences with mental health. An assistant coach who knew both players well also opens up about his personal journey. The discussion leaves a lasting impression, reinforcing the importance of compassion, connection, and carrying forward the values that Chris and Mathias embodied.
