About:
The Elwood–John H. Glenn High School Girls Volleyball Team went above and beyond this October to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research, showing the true power of teamwork and community service.
The student-athletes kicked off their efforts by joining members of the National Honor Society to participate in the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at Jones Beach. Following that, the team hosted their annual Dig Pink Game, rallying the community to raise an impressive $1,000 in support of the Islip Breast Cancer Coalition.
“It was inspiring to see our students join forces to support a vital cause and demonstrate their commitment to community service,” said Assistant Principal Lindsay Fritch. “We are very proud of the team for demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship and dedication to supporting such an important cause.”
Continuing their advocacy, the school also welcomed a guest speaker from the Maurer Foundation, who led a powerful session on breast health awareness. The presentation covered topics such as distinguishing myths from facts, understanding risk factors, and the role of nutrition and exercise in prevention. Students also learned about the importance of early detection, including breast imaging and performing clinical and self-exams.
“We thank the Maurer Foundation for providing our students with this critical, life-saving information,” Fritch added.
The John Glenn community continues to exemplify leadership, compassion, and purpose — both on and off the court.
