About:
In honor of Veterans Day, Smithtown High School East and West Leadership students are spreading awareness, gratitude, and connection throughout the district. Leadership classes from both schools are visiting elementary classrooms across the Smithtown Central School District to teach younger students about the importance of Veterans Day and to lead a heartfelt thank-you letter writing activity.
On Thursday, students from High School East engaged young learners in thoughtful discussions — asking what a veteran is, what Veterans Day means, and whether they had family members who served. The younger students eagerly shared their answers before writing personal thank-you notes filled with appreciation and pride. These letters will be delivered to local veterans in recognition of their service and sacrifice.
On Friday, High School West Leadership students continue the effort, ensuring that classrooms across the district participate in honoring those who served.
Through this initiative, Smithtown’s student leaders are not only educating others but also modeling empathy, respect, and civic responsibility — powerful reminders of what it means to serve one’s community.
