About:
The Natural Helpers Club at Eastport-South Manor Jr.-Sr. High School continues to make a meaningful impact both within the school community and beyond. Recently, club members participated in a transformative three-day retreat at Camp Quinipet on Shelter Island, where they strengthened the skills that make them trusted sources of support for their peers.
The Natural Helpers program is built on a powerful truth: young people often turn to friends first when they are struggling. Throughout the retreat, students learned essential listening and helping skills, as well as how to recognize when a situation requires the support of a professional. This training empowers them to serve as a compassionate, reliable network of peers who can guide classmates through challenges with empathy and care.
In addition to their leadership training, the Natural Helpers extended their service outward during the month of November by organizing a candy collection drive for Operation Shoebox. The donated candy will be sent to military troops, helping to boost morale for service members spending the holidays away from home. Their effort brought the school community together in gratitude, generosity, and support for those who serve our country.
Through both peer support and community outreach, the ESM Natural Helpers Club demonstrates what it means to lead with kindness, responsibility, and purpose. Their dedication is helping to strengthen the school environment while spreading positivity far beyond its walls.
A heartfelt congratulations to the Natural Helpers for their outstanding commitment to service and student well-being.
