About:
The Mahtomedi Girls of Active Leadership (GOAL) made it easier than ever for the community to give back through a meaningful, district-wide supply drive benefiting Alexandra House, a Minnesota-based nonprofit that supports women and children impacted by domestic, sexual, and relationship violence.
GOAL is a female-based leadership club at Mahtomedi High School dedicated to spreading positivity and empowering young women through service, volunteerism, and fundraising. Led by five student executives—including two co-presidents, a social media representative, treasurer, and secretary—the club’s leadership team plans events, coordinates communication, and guides meetings for the organization’s 55 members.
After learning more about Alexandra House and its mission, GOAL members researched the organization’s website to better understand its needs. Using the nonprofit’s published wish list, the students organized a supply drive focused on collecting urgently needed items such as canned food, blankets, dish soap, diapers, floor lamps, adult and children’s coloring books, puzzle books, and board games.
Donation boxes were placed throughout the Mahtomedi School District, including Wildwood Elementary School, O.H. Anderson Elementary School, Mahtomedi Middle School, Mahtomedi High School, and the Mahtomedi District Education Center. Community participation was strong, with donation bins at the high school and middle school overflowing and contributions also coming in from the elementary schools. In total, the drive collected more than 75 items, including books, blankets, clothing, diapers, lamps, and other essential supplies.
All donations were personally delivered by GOAL members to Alexandra House in Blaine, Minnesota—filling the back of a car with supplies destined to support survivors and families in need.
This student-led initiative brought together students, families, and staff across the district around a shared purpose: providing comfort, stability, and hope. The Mahtomedi GOAL Club continues to demonstrate the power of youth leadership and how service rooted in empathy and action can create meaningful, lasting impact within a community.
