About:
The Homer JV and Varsity Boys’ Wrestling teams stepped off the mat and into the community on Thursday night, lending a helping hand to support the Catholic Charities Christmas food basket distribution at St. Mary’s Church.
Following the food basket giveaway on Main Street in Cortland, wrestlers and coaches stayed on site to assist with end-of-day cleanup efforts. The team worked together to transport extra Christmas baskets, additional food items, plastic containers, and recycling and garbage from the church basement back to the food pantry—ensuring everything was properly organized and ready for future use.
In total, 20 student-athletes participated, contributing two hours of service to support local families during the holiday season. Their teamwork, responsibility, and willingness to help highlighted the values of service and leadership that extend beyond athletics.
The Homer Wrestling program continues to demonstrate that strength isn’t just measured on the mat—but also through compassion, effort, and giving back to the community.
