About:
This week, New Prague High School Boys Hockey is using the power of the game to spark an important conversation that reaches far beyond the rink.
On Thursday, the Trojans will host their “Shut Out the Stigma” game—an awareness event centered on student-athlete mental health. Throughout the week, the program is intentionally creating space for conversations around mental wellness, reminding students, teammates, and the broader community of a simple but vital message:
It’s OK to not be OK.
Mental health challenges are increasingly common among young people, including student-athletes who often face intense pressure to perform, compete, and lead. By speaking openly and taking action, New Prague Boys Hockey is helping break down stigma and encouraging athletes to look out for themselves and one another.
As part of the event, the team will raise funds in support of Duck Cup Memorial, an organization dedicated to mental health awareness, education, and support. The partnership reinforces the idea that athletics can be a powerful platform for advocacy, compassion, and real impact.
Events like Shut Out the Stigma show what leadership truly looks like—using visibility, teamwork, and community spirit to support causes that matter. New Prague Boys Hockey is proving that caring for mental health is just as important as any win on the scoreboard.
Community members are encouraged to attend, support the cause, and stand with these student-athletes as they work to shut out stigma and open the door to understanding, support, and hope.
