About:
Leadership for the Delano Tigers doesn’t stop when the game ends. This week, Delano student-athletes and performers proudly kicked off I Love to Read Month by visiting both the Elementary and Intermediate Schools, sharing their time, energy, and enthusiasm with younger students while promoting the importance of literacy.
The visit showcased the powerful influence student-athletes can have as role models within their community. By reading with students, answering questions, and engaging directly with classrooms, Delano athletes helped spark a love of learning while reinforcing the value of giving back to the schools they once walked through themselves.
Planned by the Activities Office in coordination with teachers from the Elementary and Intermediate Schools, the event brought together approximately 74 student-athletes, each eager to connect with younger Tigers. During each visit, students introduced themselves, shared the activities they are involved in at the high school, and took time to answer thoughtful questions from the classes. They then read a book aloud to officially kick off I Love to Read Month, creating a meaningful and memorable experience for students and athletes alike.
Teachers consistently shared positive feedback, noting how much their students look forward to interacting with high school athletes. For the student-athletes, the opportunity to return to former classrooms, reconnect with past teachers, and meet future Tigers was equally rewarding. The experience reinforced their role not only as athletes and performers, but as students, readers, and leaders within the Delano community.
Moments like these highlight the broader impact of school activities—showing younger students what’s possible while reminding student-athletes that their influence reaches far beyond competition. Through service, connection, and leadership, Delano Tigers continue to set an example that will resonate long after the final page is turned.
