About:
OR Girls Basketball used game day as a platform for something bigger than the scoreboard, hosting its first annual Coaches vs. Cancer Night in a matchup against Case.
With free admission and donation opportunities available at the door, the event welcomed the community to come together in support of cancer research. Fans were encouraged to help “Swish Cancer Goodbye,” reinforcing the message that athletics can be a powerful force for awareness, compassion, and action.
The initiative highlighted the leadership of OR’s student-athletes and coaching staff, who worked to create an inclusive and meaningful event that invited everyone—students, families, and fans—to play a role in the fight against cancer.
By launching this new tradition, OR Girls Basketball demonstrated how high school sports can extend beyond competition to inspire service and unity. Coaches vs. Cancer Night served as a reminder that when communities rally around a cause, every basket, every cheer, and every donation can help make a difference.
This inaugural event sets a strong foundation for future seasons and reflects the program’s commitment to using athletics as a vehicle for positive impact.
