On January 27, the Prior Lake High School basketball community came together to support a local Laker family during their annual “Coaches vs/ Cancer” match-up. Between a bake sale and a silent auction, the girls and boys basketball programs, along with their fans, raised almost $4,000 to help the Thorson family with their mounting medical bills.
Brooklynne Thorson, currently a freshman studying at UW-Eau Claire, was first diagnosed with a brain tumor six and a half years ago. Since then, she’s dealt with vision loss, severe headaches, and two brain surgeries. Then, a week after graduating from Prior Lake High School, she and her family got the devastating diagnosis of brain cancer. Brooklynne has faced these challenges with humor, strength, and resilience, and is even pursuing a career in pediatric oncology nursing, inspired by her own journey.
The Prior Lake High School basketball program and its community teamed up to ensure Brooklynne and her family won’t have to navigate this journey alone, and we are all cheering her on.
