About:
In celebration of Read Across America Week, Adelphi University student-athletes took time away from their busy schedules to visit local elementary schools and share the joy of reading with young students.
As part of the initiative, members of the Adelphi Panthers athletic community visited two different elementary schools, where they spent time reading with students, encouraging literacy, and helping foster a love of books. The visits created a fun and engaging environment for the children while also giving student-athletes an opportunity to serve as positive role models in the community.
The event was part of the nationwide Read Across America Week, which highlights the importance of reading and promotes literacy among young students. By participating in this effort, Adelphi’s student-athletes demonstrated how athletics can extend beyond competition and into meaningful community engagement.
For the elementary students, the experience of having college athletes visit their classrooms made reading even more exciting. The interaction allowed the young readers to see firsthand that success in sports and academics go hand in hand.
For the Adelphi student-athletes, the opportunity to connect with the next generation was equally impactful. Their involvement reflects a commitment to leadership, service, and making a positive difference in the community.
Initiatives like this continue to showcase how student-athletes can use their platform to inspire others, reinforcing the importance of education, mentorship, and giving back.
Through programs like this, the Adelphi Panthers prove that leadership is not only demonstrated on the field or court, but also through the meaningful connections they build in their communities.
